Note too that if you successfully restore a backed up library then you would be restoring the database to the location iTunes is looking for it, or would connect to the database on the new path, and therefore there will be no need to import media or playlists.
Uninstalling the iTunes application leaves your data and settings in place ready to be picked up when you reinstall. Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
